London’s Air Ambulance, 2018.

In 2018 artist Jeremy Houghton was invited by London’s Air Ambulance to be their first Artist in Residence and help to raise money for their worthy charity. Every day of the year, from 8 am until sunset, helicopters and rapid response cars answer emergency calls and deliver life-saving care across London. Sketching on the helipad on the top of The Royal London Hospital was a vertiginous challenge, met with enthusiasm by the artist.

The resulting collection was sold at an exhibition at Gallery 8, raising vital funds for an important cause. ‘This event was a chance to explain our charitable status to a whole new audience, thanks to Jeremy who generously donated 25% of all sales on the night. All the money raised will go towards keeping our service running 24/7 all year round.’ The theme of ‘flight’ has been a constant throughout Jeremy’s career appearing in his flamingo paintings and other residencies including RAF Centenary, Falklands, Dambusters, Red Arrows and even the Queen’s racing pigeons!
