A Celebration of Laurie Lee’s Slad Valley
Cider with Rosie Reimagined is a new collection of paintings inspired by Laurie Lee’s much-loved memoir of the same name.
Created in the village and valley that inspired the book, the collection revisits some of its most memorable scenes and characters through paint, drawing on the landscape, atmosphere and community that continue to make Slad such a special place.
The exhibition is being held in Holy Trinity Church, Slad — the church where Laurie Lee is buried — and will help raise funds towards the ongoing repair and restoration of this much-loved village landmark.
Laurie’s daughter, Jessy Lee, recently said:
“It is very moving to see my father’s work continue to inspire artists in the valley he loved so deeply. That his writing is being reimagined here, in the place where it began, and in a way that gives something back to the community, would have meant a great deal to him.”

About Jeremy Houghton
Jeremy Houghton is a Gloucestershire-based artist known for his residencies, most recently with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and next year with the Pontifical Swiss Guard at the Vatican.
His work is held in collections throughout the UK, Europe and the United States.
