Biggin Hill Commission – August 2022

Jeremy Houghton has just finished hanging one of his largest commissions to date. A 6 metre x 6 metre canvas of flamingos in flight now graces the entrance hall of the hotel at Biggin Hill airport. The unveiling of the artwork marks the opening of the hotel, following a massive refurbishment as a luxury destination for international travellers.

Once a busy RAF base and home to a spitfire squadron, it was the last line of defence to the city of London during the Battle of Britain – a historical detail that immediately attracted the artist to this project. Known for his colourful flamingo paintings, inspired by six years working in Capetown, these majestic birds symbolise the world of flight. Now a busy airport for private jets, Biggin Hill hotel will welcome all kinds of visitors to enjoy this stunning mural.
